Graphic Design Is.....
Graphic design is a composition (layout) of some elements which include shape, form, line, typography, color and images as well Graphic design communicates visually using text and/or images to present information, or deliver a message. The art of graphic design strives for a range of skills and crafts including typography, image development and page layout. Graphic design is applied in communication design. Like other forms of communication, graphic design often refers to both the process (designing) by which the communication is created, and the products (designs) such as creative solutions, imagery and multimedia compositions. Graphic design is basically applied to static media, such as posters, fliers, magazines and brochures. Things to be considered when you do graphic design:
HARMONY
RHYTHM
BALANCE
REPETITION
UNITY
COLOR SCHEME
There are varying degrees of graphic design. Graphic designer involvement may range from verbally communicated ideas, to visual rough drafts, to final production. In commercial art, clients, edits, technical preparation and mass production are usually required but usually not considered to be within the scope of graphic design unless the client is also a graphic designer.

49. Menu - Using Caps, Lowercase and Italic - 40 points
This assignment will help and show you how to use caps, lowercase, and italic in proper settings. Also to use typefaces to feature, accent, or create variety of emphasis in copy. The capital letter was derived from the inscriptions cut in stone on the walls and arches of ancient Roman cities. On buildings today, the capital is used for the same purpose, and anything else looks out of place. Nothing better has been found for titles, headings, and formal printing. When there is a lot of reading matter, it is not a good practice to use capitals alone. This is because caps are not as easy to read as lowercase are. They should be spaced well for better reading. When italic was first designed, it's purpose was to conserve space. Today it is used to accent a certain word or line. In most display work,it is best to use a combination of caps, lowercase, and italic for variety and emphasis. Some designers insist upon using all caps or all lowercase, but they are thinking more of the advertisement's beauty than of it's readability and expressiveness. Designers who use lowercase with a few lines of capitals have not sacrificed beauty or diginity. Combing the two gives variety to the printed piece as well as expressiveness. DIRECTIONS: Make two rough thumbnail ideas of the menu folder showing where art would go and copy to be placed Any style of fold that is appropriate may be used. Have me check for best one.

51. Appropriateness In Display
Before starting to work, the layout artist should always study the copy and consider the type of article to be advertised. The kind of person who would be interested in the product should also be considered. Every ad designed should appeal to the people who buy the article being advertised. The selection of type, illustrations, ornament, and border should be right for the article the advertisement is trying to sell. An advertisement for oil paintings should have an artistic air. The layout might be somewhat ornamental, but not so much that it interferes with legibility. In this case, display lines should have delicate type and be surrounded by white space so the lines stand out, figures 24-1 and 24-2. The border and illustration should not be bold, or dark in tone, but should harmonize with type design selected, figures 24-1 and 24-2. An advertisement to appeal to a prosperous business should be dignified, figure 24-3. To express dignity, the border should be plain rule and the type should be plain, clean cut, legible, and medium weight. The formal type of layout which uses considerable white space aids in expressing dignity. In advertisements displaying trucks, figure 24-4, tractors, iron, steel, and brick, a suggestion of ruggedness should enter into the layout. The type, border, and illustration should be bold to signify strength and durability. Before starting a layout, always decide the character of the article to be advertised and the kind of people it should appeal to. Each article article advertised has it's appropriate style and treatment, and this varies even with the different grades of the same article. In the case of automobiles, figure 24-5, the economy car requires a different treatment from that of the truck.
